I really want to remember this for Kausten someday. And it truly shows how great this community is and can be in times of need. The outpour of support and donations have been amazing. Thank you to everyone involved.
It is truly heartbreaking after all of this work we won't be able to use lewis 2.0. Here is what an amazing teacher said about this last week. So here we go again. Hoping to start school back up by 9 September. Please continue to keep us all in your prayers as we plan, move, and strive for the best for our children.
"Well...this has been one of the most emotional weeks of my life!!! My Ft. Irwin friends will understand, but for those of you that have not lived this week here in the Mojave Desert, let me fill you in. Last Sunday Ft. Irwin was hit with ...monsoon rains that caused flash flooding. This flood has created tons of damage on our post. One area greatly impacted was Lewis Elementary School! This is where I have the pleasure to educate some of the sweetest Kindergarteners! Our building was taken over buy several inches of water!!! Because of this major damage, we have to leave our school building so that repairs can be made. The United States ARMY and the SVUSD paired up and found an alternate location for our school. We have lovingly referred to this site as Lewis 2.0! The community came together!! 11th ACR and RSS troops packed up classrooms, moved furniture, downloaded boxes, and decorated classrooms to prepare for students arrival on Tuesday!!! In addition, parent volunteers and the PTA have supported us through this endeavor!!! Unfortunately, we found out today, at the Town Hall Meeting that our new site, Lewis 2.0, did not meet specific California state laws and mandates for students. This was a huge blow for our community members and students. With that said, a plan is in motion to move again and get our students back in school! I am very proud of all of the wonderful people who have and continue to support our school and students! I am proud of you Ft. Irwin!!! You all are amazing!!!!! Lewis Strong!!!"
